President’s
Report - Nandor Horthy

When I was elected as the new president of our
association, I decided that my number one
priority would be to accomplish two major goals
that were long overdue.
The first and
most important goal was to create a website. I
am happy to report that before the end of this
month, February 2008 you'll be able to click on
Huvac.ca and visit a virtual tour of the art
produced by our members.
Second on my
agenda was to liaison with the Montreal-based
Hungarian artists association called the
Canadian Hungarian Artists' Collective (CHAC)
and organize an exhibition together as a first
step for future co-opera-tion that will be
beneficial for both groups of artists.
Again, I am happy
to report that we will have an exhibition
together with the Montreal (CHAC) in the Toronto
Hungarian Cultural Centre from May 3 to May 11,
2008. You will receive details about this event
soon.
Further
exhibitions are planned during the Hungarian
Days in the Cultural Centre on June 20, 21 and
22, 2008. Our second exhibition will be held at
Todmorden Mills, Toronto on October 14-28, 2008.
As you see, the
HUVAC executive members and I are trying to do
our best to create more exhibition opportunities
and other interesting ventures for our artists.
None of these can be achieved without volunteer
help by our members, so I would encourage you to
contact me if you would like to get involved and
volunteer to help out in our upcoming endeavors.
I wish you all a
successful year and beautiful spring days to
come soon. Nandor

Painting in Oils, Wood Carving |
Péter Cserháti
was born in 1940 in Budapest, Hungary. As a
young adolescent, he became profoundly
affected by the world of colours and classical
music. In 1958 he graduated from the Fine &
Applied Art School in Budapest where he
studied drawing, woodcarving, and sculpting.
Independently, he also pursued the study of
painting in oils and watercolour.

Upon
graduation, Péter Cserháti began to earn his
living in Budapest as a decorative woodcarver,
but remained active in painting and sculpting.
For many years he was also a member of an
amateur choir, performing classical and modern
repertoire.
In 1969 he was
granted the distinction of Master Woodcarver.
In the same year he escaped from communist
Hungary, settling in Canada the following year
where he established a career in designing and
carving residential, institutional, and church
interiors in traditional and modern styles.
The subject
matter of his artwork is nature, the human
form, and the human spirit.
Péter Cserháti
is currently working in wood carving and oil painting.
