KRISTOF, TIMEA

Timea Kristof is a Hungarian artist based in Toronto. She studied Visual Arts at York University where she obtained an Honours Degree in Fine Arts. Her work focuses mainly on metalsmithing, bronze casting and oil painting.

Timea’s early work is greatly influenced by Transylvanian artists from the Artist Colony in Nagybanya - in her oil paintings she depicts everyday life in Transylvania: streets, buildings, people going about their chores. In her later work Timea explores historical themes from the places she has lived in. In her series of paintings from Detroit she focuses on abandoned factories and industrial plants as places of ethereal beauty.

In recent years Timea branched off from oil painting and bronze casting and started focusing on fine metal work, mainly silver and gold. She creates unique pieces of jewelry that are not only meant to be worn as adornment, but as statements of wearable art/sculptures. She reuses remnants of broken antique silver and gold and reworks them in a way that speak of the forgotten and ancient.

Timea korai munkájára nagy hatással voltak a Nagybányai Művész Csoport tagjai. Olajfestményei az erdélyi mindennapokat tükrözik: utcákat, épületeket, munkálkodó embereket. Későbbi munkái azoknak a helyeknek a történelmi témáit dolgozza fel, ahol Timea élt. Detroit városáról készített sorozatában elhagyott gyárak, ipari telepek légies szépségére összpontosít.

Az utóbbi években Tímea a kovácsművességre hangolódott, főleg ezüsttel és arannyal dolgozik. Egyedi ékszereket készít, melyek nemcsak díszítenek, de hordható műalkotások, szobrok. Régi ezüst és arany tárgyakat dolgoz fel úgy, hogy az elfelejtett dolgokat, az ódont, az ősit idézi meg.
